Where Light Becomes Art
Video: Japan, Where Light Becomes Art – Images from the Immersive Exhibition
A mesmerizing display of shimmering and iridescent lights that engulf you, offering moments that feel suspended in time and space. This is the immersive exhibition at the renowned digital art museum, teamLab Borderless, which reopens its doors in Tokyo, Japan, unveiling a new collection of artworks.
Visitors here can interact with the play of lights, some of which transform with the touch of the beholder. From digital butterflies taking flight upon contact to threads of light that follow the movements of the visitors, the museum provides a dynamic and engaging experience.
“Wherever people are, the light closest to them illuminates, positioned to always appear beautiful. I want to make this Borderless a place where people can feel and experience the beauty of continuity,” says teamLab’s founder, Toshiyuki Inoko.
Originally situated in Odaiba, the museum closed its doors in August 2022 to relocate to a new venue in the city center. Since its opening in 2018, teamLab Borderless has become a global phenomenon, attracting 2.3 million visitors within a year from over 160 countries and regions.
